Pond Pumps

What So Good About Pond Pumps?

Because of the way that ponds are built, it is not easy for the water to circulate. The lack of circulation in the pond can cause the water to become stagnant. It can also encourage the growth of insect pests like mosquitoes. Pond pumps not only circulate the water to prevent these things from occurring, they also improve the aesthetics of the pond. By circulating the water, pond pumps ensure the life inside the pond receive the nutrients needed in order to live.

Pond pumps provide the circulation needed in order for fish to maintain life. Fish breathe through using oxygen that is present in the water. When the water is allowed to sit for an extended period of time, this oxygen gets depleted. Without a sufficient supply of oxygen the fish can die of suffocation. Pond pumps circulate the water renewing the oxygen and preventing pond turnover.

When pond water is still, it becomes an environment conducive for mosquitoes to lay their eggs. While the fish can feed off some of the mosquitoes, if there are more of the insects than the fish are able to eat, the area around the pond will become swarmed with these pests. It will be impossible for anyone to visit the pond without getting mosquito bites. Pond pumps keep the water moving preventing mosquitoes and other insect pests from laying eggs.

Water that is allowed to sit can become stagnant. An undesirable sour smell can develop. This smell can defeat the purposed of a decorative pond because the smell will prevent people from enjoying the pond. Since pond pumps keep the water in the pond circulation, the stagnant smell is prevented allowing the pond to be enjoyed.

Pumps are beneficial for ponds in many ways. They preserve life inside the pond and maintain the pond so that it can remain recreational.
